Hotel Design – High-end Hotel Function Areas and Their Necessary Support Spaces(1)– Hotel Entrance and Lobby Area

Do you also call the hotel designer because you do not understand the support and support spaces of the various functional areas of the hotel?

Our hotel designers are often behind the “bricks”   said: “the hotel knows nothing and dares to call themselves hotel designers, what shit garbage”. Don’t you really disagree, do we often have pieces of space in our drawings that fill the shadowed space with lines 8 or 9 (which will be played bad by you sooner or later) and indicate that they are designed by professional companies?

Do we often ask the owner of the hotel party: What are the needs of the function of your hotel lobby space? Where’s the restaurant space? Where’s the room area? Wait a minute. Or often will be said: this space is too low effect  … That space line crosses… This space even does not even have that, how does the hotel operate? Wait a minute. If you really have such questions or questions from time to time, then you really can not be considered a qualified hotel designer, it is not polite to say, you really do not deserve to have the title of hotel designer.

Don’t be scolded after, next time still ” a face forced “? Then it is very necessary for you to pay attention to the content of this stage of “JianjiangMa”.     “Jianjiangma”  will take you to become a competent hotel designer, professional hotel project host, professional hotel preparation technical consultant, and so on.

Although the content of this stage of the article as a first-person hotel designer to ignore and describe, the content of the article can be suitable for the hotel project preparation related to the management to recognize or think.

I spent a lot of time thinking and sorting it out before I started the hotel design. I’ve been asking myself: Start with hotel building planning? Start with hotel design specifications, including hotel-related fire codes? Start with the hotel’s overall functional planning? Start with hotel brands and hotel specialty needs? Start with the hotel’s operating line?  ……

After this period of re-neglect and reflection, I think the content of this stage is not appropriate to be described in accordance with the usual (write total to score) but should be written in reverse. The content of this stage should first clarify the composition of each function and then connect to the line, otherwise directly to a general concept is not helpful to the group.

Therefore, I choose the order of “from division to total”.  Of course, for ease of understanding, when writing local functional spaces, the composition of each functional space will start and intersperse with each other. If you have any questions in the course of reading, you can leave a message in each article, “Jianjiangma”  will certainly have to return to the question.

This article is the beginning of this stage of the article, so there are many.  OK. Let you watch for a long time, below we formally into the content of this article.

The hotel entrance and lobby area is an important reception area of the hotel, but also the hotel’s primary image area, but also the hotel guests’ first experience area. To meet the hotel brand’s reception, guest convergence, diversion, and other functional design (from which the lobby needs to have sufficient buffer space), but also to meet the hotel brand’s design style, hotel brand requirements to meet the first experience of guests, and to meet the hotel volume (reception of guests) on the spatial planning, we must also clearly understand the composition of the hotel lobby area and its support space.

Hotel entrance and lobby area main components and support space: arrival area, hotel entrance, concierge welcome area, lobby service area, seating area, and so on.

The space of the arrival area mainly includes: parking island, waiting area, and valet parking area, drop-off area, walk-in area, each district is interoperability and relatively independent as well.

The main manpower support in this functional area is security kiosks or security posts, concierges and guests (active in the hotel entrance, hotel lobby area, free time service in the lobby bar or leisure lounge area), baggage attendants.

The space at the hotel entrance mainly includes: the hotel’s main entrance passage, staff and luggage passage, staff and luggage access can be relatively independent. Large conference hotels or hotels with more reception groups should have group guest passages adjacent to the main entrance channel. Private or club-type ultra-high-end hotels generally add VIP access, VIP access can not be set up near the hotel lobby, such hotels will be described in detail.

The main manpower support in this functional area is: concierge and guest, doorman, group reception are generally directly organized by the front office duty manager or customer relationship management services, VIP access by private service butlers, and others responsible for reception.

The space in the concierge welcome area is located in the hotel lobby and is the main support function of the hotel lobby. Mainly includes an information desk, concierge desk, luggage parking, and luggage room. Generally located next to the hotel service reception, adjacent to the elevator hall leading to the hotel rooms, and easy to see the lobby entrance directly as a good.

This function area includes manpower support mainly: concierge, guest, doorman, baggage student, and so on. Unified is administered by the Protocol Department and belongs to the division of the front office or directly to the front office.

The lobby service area is located in a key location in the lobby and can be viewed directly from the main entrance to the hotel, but directly opposite or towards the main entrance to the hotel. The main function of the space is to manage guest check-in, departure settlement, service consulting, valuables storage, and other services, the hotel hosting foreign guests should have convertible foreign currency services.

The support space of the front office service area in addition to the welcome-related space must also set up the front office manager room, front office area, the front office manager room must be connected with the front office area, close to the lobby service front desk, generally located next to or behind the service front desk, in and out of the service front desk does not cause interference as well.

This function is particularly important, mainly with the function of switchgear and to assist customer service relationship functions, should not be directly reduced to the front desk of the service, must be set up independently, will deal with major complaints and disputes of hotel guests to minimize the impact on the normal operation of the hotel. A conditional hotel lobby also can be set up in the lobby manager’s desk or customer relationship manager’s desk.

Human support in the front office service area: the entire front office.

Lounge area or lobby bar: In addition to the above, the hotel lobby support space must be equipped with a seating area or lobby bar. Such as the hotel brand standard for the compound lobby (lobby compound leisure bar, restaurant bar, and drink bar, and other functions) can not be considered.

Other support spaces in the hotel lobby: transitional areas in the lobby and other spaces, business center area, hotel service shops, public telephone areas, and public restrooms, staff toilets, etc.

Public health rooms should be aware that the entrance should not be facing the hotel lobby and related guest service areas should be set not far from the hotel lobby, to avoid hotel guests to and from the hotel lobby too long line.

This is the first to be written about the hotel lobby area and its support space. The area size of each functional space, the sense of space design, etc. are related to the hotel brand, hotel volume, and specific hotel projects, which will be discussed after writing the function of each space and its support.
